Lake Country Cares in an initiative to address Elder Abuse in our community.
Elder abuse is any action by someone in a relationship of trust that results in harm or distress to an older person. Types of elder abuse include physical abuse, emotional abuse, financial abuse, sexual abuse and neglect or self-neglect. Often, more than one type of abuse occurs at the same time. Abuse can be a single incident or a repeated pattern of behaviour. For more information check out the Elder Abuse ToolKit.
Small actions can make a big difference. We are taking a stand against the abuse of older adults in the area as well as developing literature to assist communities throughout Canada. Our Care Toolkit is full of information and outlines strategies to address elder abuse.
This initiative was made possible with funds from the Government of Canada ‘New Horizons for Seniors’ Program.
