The LCHPS Annual General Meeting was held June 24th at the District of Lake Country Municipal Hall. Sadly, two of our Board Members are moving on to other endeavours. We wish to thank Tom Cockrell and Larissa McLean for their time, dedication, and hard work given to this organization. We wish you all the best for the future!

Health Hub Feasibility Study Gets Funded!
LCHPS is proud to announce the following news!

June 25, 2018 News Release:

Lake Country Health Hub Feasibility Study has received Provincial Funding.

Diverse community partners have expressed interest in creating a community space for public health and not-for-profit organizations to work collaboratively to meet community needs. Thanks to funding by the Province of BC, through Interior Health, the Lake Country Health Planning Society, along with Urban Matters Consulting Firm, will be working on a Lake Country Health Hub Feasibility Study over the next year.
"A Feasibility Study is the next step in expanding the Lake Country Health Hub as an innovative community health centre", said Brenda Kalinovich, Executive Director at LCHPS. "This community driven project has involved hundreds of Lake Country residents, passionate community volunteers, and partners such as the District of Lake Country, MLA Norm Letnick, United Way, Interior Health, School District 23, Lake Country RCMP, and over 30 organizations involved with the Lake Country Interagency group."
The goal of the study is to propose how local primary health care needs will be addressed from a community asset-driven approach. Among other objectives, the feasibility study will further define the Lake Country Health Hub vision, operating model options, space requirements, financial model and investment requirements partnership considerations, and alignment with overall primary care network planning in the region.
"The Lake Country Health Hub will support the delivery of client-centered services that promote health and wellness while improving population health outcomes. A recent community needs assessment identified critical health priorities for Lake Country in Mental Health services, Urgent Care, and expansion of Public Health services," says Kalinovich. "We are looking forward to working with key stakeholders including Interior Health Authority, local First Nations organizations, Central Okanagan Division of Family Practice, and local family physicians to inform planning and priorities."

The Feasibility Study will be completed and provided to the Ministry of Health and the Central Okanagan Collaborative Services Committee by May 31, 2019.

Events
Lake Country Volunteer Fair:
On May 26th, Lake Country held it's first Volunteer Fair/Volunteer Appreciation in honour of all of the amazing volunteerism that happens in this community. Organizations came out to recruit new volunteers and there was cake and prizes to celebrate the ones that they currently have. Here at LCHPS we raffled off two beautiful flower baskets donated to us by Kel-Lake Greenhouse. One of our winners was Esther Shortt, a long time LCHPS volunteer who is moving this year. What a blessing to be able to say thank you to this hard working volunteer for all of her service. We will miss you Esther!

Sol-ful

LCHPS volunteers and staff attended Sol-ful Sunday on June 24th. We were on hand with information, handouts, sunscreen, and the "Spell Your Name" Pledge Game, designed to get people active and moving! For more information on this nifty way to sneak some exercise into your day, give us a call at the office: 778-215-5247

Canada Day
Despite the rain that came, LCHPS was on hand to help Canada celebrate another birthday and to promote, provide, and advocate for Health & Wellness in Lake Country. Happy Canada Day everyone!

We started a new FREE program for older adults in the community called Active Agers! This program started May 9th and just wrapped up June 27th. It was well received and we will be having another session starting in September. The new session will be held Friday mornings at 8am at Beasley and, due to feedback, we are making it available for anyone 55+!

Point In Time Count

Recently, LCHPS, in conjunction with the District of Lake Country, conducted a Point in Time Homelessness Count. The results of the 2018 PiT Count provide a better understanding of the current state of homelessness in Lake Country. These results may be used to provide direction and inform strategic community planning. Further, these findings may act as a benchmark to track changes in the homeless population over time and measure progress in addressing homelessness.
For more information or to read the report, please contact Brenda Kalinovich at 778-215-5247

The Family & Friends Caregiver Support Group is for individuals who have a family member or friend that is experiencing mental health issues, or other health concerns, such as Alzheimer's or Dementia. This group is free of charge, led by a certified counsellor, and registration is not required. Occurs the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of every month. Please call LCHPS at 778-215-5247 for more information.
