Born in Vancouver, Tom graduated from Vancouver Technical Secondary School in 1962. Married in 1968, he and his wife, Muriel have two married sons and four grandchildren.
Tom’s work and business experience has been wide and varied. His work experience includes stores manager at Simon Fraser University, building maintenance supervisor, National Sales Coordinator for a book publisher, and print shop manager. His business experience includes a partnership in an office equipment and supply store in Surrey, BC. Currently he and his wife own operate Profile Marketing Inc, selling promotional products and printing. They also publish a regional bridal magazine annually.
Tom has enjoyed working with youth and adults for over twenty years in Scouts Canada. His experience in Scouting includes leader (Cubs and Beavers), trainer, administrator, District Commissioner, Regional Commissioner, and director on two regional Scouting boards. In 1998 he received the Silver Acorn for his service to Scouting. He has also done classroom training as volunteer with Junior Achievement B.C.
Currently, Tom is Vice-President of the Kiwanis Club of Kelowna-Summit, having previously served for three years as a director on the same board. He has responsibility for fund-raising and some of the youth programs in the club. In 2009, Tom was given the Kiwanian of the Year Award for his service to Kiwanis. As a director on the board of the Lake Country Health Planning Society Tom hopes to help the board as it develops programs to support a healthy community.
Over the years, Tom has received training in a number of areas. Training includes: Business Administration ( 1 year, UBC); Trainer – level II (Scouts Canada); Administrative Management – (Scouts Canada); Strategic Account Management – (American Management Association)
Tom’s spare time is spent with his life partner, Muriel. When he has time, he loves to work on his family history, stamp collection, some photography and various home projects.
